This week at the Board of Supervisors; Supervisor Katy Tang stands strong and scores a major victory on Home-SF, Airbnb's settlement with the City is approved, and the inclusionary zoning legislation vote is delayed (again).
Board of Supervisors Meeting; May 23rd, 2017
Meeting Length: 3 hrs, 38 mins.
Supervisor Tang's Home-SF Program finally passed the Board of Supervisors on at 10-1 vote. Supervisor Tang vigorously fought and defeated two proposed amendments that would water down the program, pushing Supervisor Yee to be the lone vote against the legislation.

The Board of Supervisors voted to approve the lawsuit settlement between the City and Airbnb/HomeAway. The settlement requires that Airbnb and Homeaway verify that their home-share users are lawfully registered with the City, and Airbnb/HomeAway pay the city $40,000 each, plus $5,000 annually, to establish an online application process for short-term rentals. The settlement may signal the end of a long regulatory and legislative fight between SF local government and Airbnb.

The Board of Supervisors authorized the Mayor's Office of Housing to move forward with an application to purchase land at 1064-1068 Mission Street to build supportive housing for homeless San Franciscans.
-----------------------------------
The Board of Supervisors also authorized the Mayor's Office of Housing to purchase the New Asia Restaurant site in Chinatown for $5 million to build affordable housing. The new building will preserve the restaurant space on the ground floor.

The vote on the inclusionary zoning legislation, now reported to be a compromise ordinance between Supervisors Safai, Peskin, Breed, and Kim, was postponed (again) to the June 5th Board of Supervisors meeting.

Supervisor Malia Cohen introduced legislation for the City to acquire Shoreview Park from the Office of Community Investment and Infrastructure (formerly Redevelopment Agency). Shoreview Park was originally built as a mini-park to serve the residents of public housing in the Bayview, but it has fallen in disrepair in recent years. Cohen's legislation would allow Rec & Park Department to make major capital improvements to the park and re-open its playground.
