TUESDAY MAY 30TH
PJ's Deportation Hearing Support
https://www.facebook.com/events/1002797529854210
Griffin Estes
9am-10am
630 Sansome Street San Francisco, CA 94111
Borey “PJ” Ai may be one of the most accomplished persons you will ever meet. He also happens to be one of the youngest persons to be given a life sentence, at age 14. After spending 20 years in prison, he was found suitable for parole at his first hearing.
Self-described as being “stateless,” Ai was born in a refugee camp in Thailand to parents who escaped the genocide in Cambodia. “Almost 98 percent of my family were butchered in the genocide,” said Ai, during an interview. When he was 5, Ai and his family immigrated to America, settling into a rough Stockton neighborhood.
Borey Ai was found suitable for parole on July 22. Upon being released from state custody in November, Ai was immediately detained for deportation, never having the opportunity to return to his family in Stockon.
Hastings Prisoner Outreach, HSIR, and the Hastings NLG chapter are asking you to come to the hearing in order to show support.
The hearing is a merits hearing to decide whether PJ qualifies for withholding of removal under the Convention Against Torture. The more people that attend, the better.

WEDNESDAY MAY 31ST
Such a Nasty Woman: Female Writers Respond to Trump
https://www.facebook.com/events/1531499156883043
Litquake
6pm-7:30pm
San Francisco Main Public Library 100 Larkin Street San Francisco CA 94012
NOTE: THIS EVENT IS AT CAPACITY. A LIMITED AMOUNT OF OVERFLOW SEATING WILL BE AVAILABLE.
Admission free!
Many women woke up on November 9, 2016 and wondered if clocks had been set back 100 years. A man who bragged about his sexual assaults, referred to women as pigs and bimbos, and in a televised debate, called Hillary Clinton “a nasty woman,” had just been elected president.
This man has threatened to defund Planned Parenthood, and implied that military rape is to be expected. His vice president boasts of consigning Roe v. Wade “to the ash heap of history where it belongs.” It’s enough to make a female pacifist take up arms.
This panel of brave, outspoken, and articulate authors will ask some tough questions. How can women hold their ground in such a cultural recession? And what kind of vital role can female writers play during this age of ignorance and fear?
With Cristina Garcia, Jewelle Gomez, and Kate Schatz, and moderated by author/journalist Vanessa Hua.
Part of Litquake's Shadow & Light series, continuing all spring and summer at the S.F. Public Library.

Stop "El Chorizo" Luxury Development on Mission Street
https://www.facebook.com/events/113646839205204
United to Save the Mission
1pm-5pm
SF Planning Commission City Hall Room 400
It's time to Save Mission Street from the 20+ developments that are turning our family corridor into another Valencia St!!!
This former sausage factory at 1726 Mission St is being converted into luxury housing with minimum affordable housing units - only 6 out ot 40!
Come help STOP the wipeout of another 11,000 square feet of blue-collar jobs space for luxury housing and protect our Mission Street.
This floor-to ceiling-glass structure with its exclusive concrete sound-proofing bunkering is intended to lure high-income young newcomers at expensive prices and will increase gentrification and displacement.
This project does not fit on Mission St - it needs significant affordable housing to provide homes to our families and it needs to retain its blue-collar space to keep our community employed in good-paying jobs.
A more exact time of the start to the hearing will be announced soon as it is set.
Please follow along here, and please help spread the word - 20 more projects are coming and they must be stopped and Mission St held for our families!
Dancing for a Cause - 90's Throwback to Support Women's Health
https://www.facebook.com/events/1880112252272294/
United Democratic Club
6pm-11pm
The Chapel 777 Valencia Street San Francisco CA 94110
Dancing for A Cause (D4AC) is the United Democratic Club’s yearly hallmark gala where we gather in support of social justice issues. Due to being under attack by the current Republican administration, for 2017 we are supporting women’s health issues by partnering with Simply the Basics, a non-profit with a mission to "help people meet their most basic needs with dignity so they can focus on greater goals." The theme of this year’s gala is the 1990’s, so be prepared to dress up and dance to classics such as "Spice up Your Life" with the Spice Girls, rock out to "Just a Girl" with Gwen Stefani, and say "No 'to' Scrubs" with TLC.
Each D4AC ticket purchased donates the following items to Simply The Basics: Tampon Pack, Maxi Pads, Deodorant, Toothpaste, Toothbrush, Hand and Body Lotion, Conditioner, Tearless shampoo, Med. Comb, Socks (10-pack), Cotton T-Shirts (4-pack)

The Political Dynamics of Housing
https://www.facebook.com/events/715957158575118
6pm-9pm
Twilio 375 Beale Street San Francisco
We all know that the Bay Area is facing an urgent crisis in housing. From 2007 to 2014 the nine Bay Area counties issued permits for only 57% of the housing needed to keep up with population growth. Since January 2011 the region has created five times more jobs than housing units.
Everyone seems to agree there is a problem, and there is general consensus about the solution set -- so why is it so hard to get anything done? Who are the players and what do they want? Are there any breakthrough legislative efforts underway, and how might we support their passage?
This event will explore these questions, and include a forward-looking, solutions-oriented conversation about how we can break the deadlock. Kim-Mai Cutler will give an overview of housing's political landscape.

Tech's Future is Female
https://www.facebook.com/events/780275558794397
Sway Ventures
6pm-8:30pm
325 Pacific Avenue, San Francisco, California 94111
While women have made great strides in growing businesses and creating jobs over the past few decades, significant challenges still remain. We'll explore two of the greatest challenges for high growth women entrepreneurs:
Access to networks. Men and women in different networks is a societal issue that is magnified in the investment or fundraising scenario and a gender inclusive approach is needed. Currently there are too many women-only solutions and this approach excludes women from opportunities to which they should have access.
Self-assurance. Women still self assess lower than men, and therefore their business aspirations are often understated. With access to diverse networks and advisors and the opportunity to scale the business, women succeed.
Our panel, "Tech's Future is Female: Inclusive Innovation" features spotlight guests Sharon Vosmek (Astia Angels), Meredith Finn (SalesforceVentures), Jennifer Billock (Ozlo) and Janice Roberts (BGV) will sit down with Bill Malloy (Sway Ventures) to discuss bias in the workplace and how managers and executives can work to create a more inclusive and diverse company culture.
They will show us how behavior shifts in entrepreneurial ecosystems can lead to more robust levels of inclusive innovation, and highlight research on how access to business networks, expertise and capital play out across gender lines.
