Five Days of Perfectly Good Lunch - Civic Center

January 04, 2017  |  By Bay City Beacon Staff

Food Round-Up for the New Year!  Because no one wants to think about meal prepping lunch on your first week back at work.

For those City Hall workers, mid-Market non-profits, tech employees, and attorneys spending their at Superior Court - we at the Beacon feel for you.  Yes, you may run the city, save lives, change the world, or crush your billable hours.  But you still have to eat at the lunch wasteland which is Civic Center/mid-Market.  Yes, Gyro King is amazing - but you really can't do that 5 days in a row.  That's why the Bay City Beacon team is here to help you plan a delicious week back at work!

MONDAY:
Middle Eastern - The Flying Falafel
1051 Market Street
http://www.flyingfalafel.com/

The bad news: everyone knows this place is amazing. The good news: Great excuse to take an early lunch to avoid the crowd. Their basic pita pocket sandwich is packed cabbage, pickles, and amazing, amazing falafel. They’re secretly vegan, but don’t hold it against them.

TUESDAY:
Vietnamese - Tu Lan
8 Sixth Street
http://tulansf.blogspot.com/

The deep fried Imperial Rolls and classic Pho will keep you warm on a chilly Tuesday afternoon. Order ahead for take-out at this wonderful greasy little Vietnamese diner. If you opt to stay, you can find additional seating tucked away upstairs.  Also: Julia Child.

WEDNESDAY:
Ethopian - Moya
121 Ninth St.
http://moya121.eat24hour.com/

Small and friendly, Moya is packed with flavor. The veggie platter lets you taste a little bit of everything, while the chicken Doro Tibs are an excellent entree all on their own.

THURSDAY:
Food Truck - OFF THE GRID
UN Plaza
https://offthegrid.com/

Yes, this is not a restaurant.  No, that’s not cheating.  Lunch is lunch.  Off the Grid food trucks rotate vendors and moves around the city. On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Friday’s they’re in the Civic Center neighborhood and you can pick up amazing eats. On Thursday you’ll find them clustered at the UN Plaza at the BART station. There’s always something new and delicious, but don’t forget the SF classics - Filipino Senor Sisig for the shredded Sisig Salad.  Add a fried egg on top.  Just do it.

FRIDAY:
Cats - KitTea
96 Gough Street
https://www.kitteasf.com/

It’s finally Friday. Curl up at the city’s cat cafe. You earned it. Get a decadent Turkey and Tomato Panini or go all the way with a Brie topped Belgian Waffle. Yeah. It’s that kinda place.  Meow.
