Staff
Diego Aguilar-Canabal, Managing Editor
Diego Aguilar-Canabal was born & raised in Silver Spring, MD, where he played in jazz and metal bands and miraculously stayed out of trouble. He came to the Bay Area to study English Literature and Psychology at Stanford University with scholarships and financial aid, for which he is eternally grateful. He has since written about music and politics for Decoder Magazine, Decaycast, and the Bay Area Metropolitan Observer.
Jay Cheng, Publisher
Jay Cheng was born in New York City, but raised in the suburbs of San Jose. He achieved his boyhood dream of growing up and moving to the big city; and currently lives in the Haight. Jay has spent the last several years working in politics and government affairs, but decided to leave it all behind for a quiet career in newspaper publishing. He spends his weekends facing near-death surfing at Ocean Beach.
Mike Ege, Senior Staff Writer & Business Development
Mike Ege (“Eggie”) is a Peninsula native who has been observing and occasionally rattling San Francisco politics for over two decades. In addition to having served on the Ballot Analysis Committee of SPUR and as President of the City Democratic Club, he’s a former Commissioner and Civil Grand Juror. A refugee from the advertising industry, Mike writes about political history, city planning, and what he likes to call the “cultural infrastructure” of The City. He also works on business development for the Beacon.
Jay Ann Leyson, Staff Photographer
JayAnn has been living in San Francisco since she was 9 years old. She has a long history of Democratic and healthcare activism, from her work in Filipino Americans for Obama, KAYA Filipino Americans for Progress, The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Light the Night Walk, and One Brick organization. JayAnn has a B.S. in Child Development from San Francisco State, and currently interns for Board of Equalization Chair Fiona Ma.
Shayna Yasuhara, Culture Writer
Shayna Yasuhara is a Bay Area native who flew across the country to study Criminal Justice and Sociology at Northeastern University in Boston. In true Gemini fashion, this is where she took a hard left toward visual arts, curating, and animation. With a slant toward social justice, Shayna has since written for Broke-Ass Stuart and is the editor at SF Station.
