Every week we bring you a neighborhood hidden gem that represents a unique, beautiful, and possibly little-known side of San Francisco.
What is it: Esmeralda Slide Park
Where is it: Esmeralda St And Winfield St San Francisco, CA 94110 (Bernal Heights Neighborhood)
What makes it special: Esmeralda Slide Park was established in the 1970’s with a group of volunteers who later founded The Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center. The Esmeralda Slide itself is a 35-foot slide that adults can ride (with the help of recycled cardboard pads provided by the park). The park which was designed by Nancy Windesheim and constructed by Todd Lapin. In June of this year, the park had a re-restoration and they added “the locator” mosaic, funded by local neighbors. It’s a beautiful and gorgeous park quietly tucked away in Bernal Heights.
